Veterinarians

Dr Naveen Gakhar, DVM

Dr. Naveen Gakhar  holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Veterinary Science (DVM) from College of Veterinary Sciences, Punjab Agricultural University (India) and a Master’s degree in Animal Nutrition from the University of Manitoba.

He worked as a mixed animal practitioner in India for 5 years before moving to Canada in 2006 for his Master's program. He worked in Glenn Mountain Animal Hospital, Abbotsford , BC and at Sunrise Animal Hospital before takling over  the Sunrise Animal Hospital in 2016.

His professional interests include: small animal internal medicine, soft tissue surgery, emergency medicine, and critical care. Dr. Naveen Gakhar is a member of Canadian Veterinary Medical Association and Alberta Veterinary Medical Association.

He lives in Edmonton with his wife and a son. Apart from work he enjoys traveling, playing and watching sports, music and spending time with his family.

Dr Hardeep Singh, DVM

Dr. Hardeep Singh graduated from SKUAST-J (India) in 2018. He moved to Edmonton in 2021 and has been working for the clinic since April of 2022. He has a passion for small animal internal medicine and small animal surgery. He has a particular love for cats and is looking forward to having one of his own in the near future. Dr. Hardeep Singh is currently a member of both the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association as well as the Alberta Veterinary Association. He also has a large collection of colourful socks to help mimic his humorous personality. When he is not here at the clinic, he enjoys spending time with his friends and family in the city.

Katelyn Louma, AHT

Katelyn graduated from the Animal Health Technology program at Olds College in 2018. Before graduating from Olds College she worked as a Technologist Assistant at the Calgary North Animal Hospital and Emergency Service which invoked her passion for critical care and rehabilitation. She also had the opportunity of volunteering for the Calgary Wildlife Rehabilitation Society where she participated in the veterinary care and rehabilitation of sick and/or injured wildlife which inspired her to become an RVT. Katelyn currently lives here in Edmonton with her American Cocker Spaniel, Lily, three cats Mushu, Pancake, and Stardust, her black-capped conure, Saki , and her Holland lop rabbit Pepper.

Dakota Verboom-Richardson

Dakota is an Animal Health Technologist that graduated from NAIT in 2023. She enjoys playing soccer, crocheting, and reading which occupy most of her free time. She currently has a young shih tzu named "Piper," a boxer named "Kaos," and a brown tabby named "Charlie" that fill her life with both mischief and joy.

Chantel Lachance, VMA

Chantel graduated NAIT in 2021 with her Veterinary Medical Assistant certificate. She is currently enrolled in a veterinary technician program at Pen Foster and is looking forward to advancing in the profession she is passionate about. She has a healthy obsession with calico kittens (of all ages and varieties) and will happily cuddle every one that enters the clinic. She has two calico cats herself named Talulah and Stella and two dogs. She has a wonderful little shih tzu named Gizmo, and an adorable little dachshund named Nova that occupy most of her time when she is not entertaining her two wonderful kittens. 

Cheyanne Ellerton, VMA

Cheyanne graduated from the Veterinary Medical Assistant program at Reeves College in 2024. Originally from Ontario she volunteered at hospices and nursing homes became more inspired and wanted to work with little critters. Cheyanne currently resides in Edmonton with her ferocious but adorable highland lynx Mona, and her new bunny named Bento that band together and make Cheyanne’s life interesting and exciting.

Sunny - Clinic Mascot

Sunny has been at Sunrise since March 2017. He came to us one day with urinary issues and hasn't left the clinic since. He currently works as HR, the CEO, and as PR, but in his free time, he loves to lounge in his luxury suite and observe the world. He is truly a social butterfly that must great every dog, cat, and human that comes through the doors. His mission in life is to find any snack possible as the greatest joys in life are truly food. He looks forward to meeting you at your next visit!
